Avis - Was suppose to have a 8 seat suburban and got a 7 seat

I had spoke to someone twice for verification that I needed 8 seats for a trip. after I had to park my personal car in a lot and pay for it (which wasn't told to me ahead), then I had to shuttle a few minutes to airport to rental. agent called out o guys and they said it is 8 seats. go and drive it out of garage and low and behold it has 7 seats! then I was told that I could wait an hour and get an 8 seat. I was already late and now I had to tell one person they couldn't go on a family Christmas trip to Chicago.......horrible people

This is the 3rd year in a row we rented a 12 passenger van from Avis in Bozeman Montana, and were completely satisfied until this point. There were 12 of us. Since so many of us are involved my friends sent a letter to Avis Customer Service on behalf of all of us. Below is an excerpt from the letter : When I arrived to pick up my Van, I was told that the Van did not arrive. They were going to give us two vehicles in lieu of one Van for 12 people. This was totally unacceptable One of the people was also told that the Van was never sent by corporate. We had to call someone we knew to bring a third car to load the baggage, as the baggage would not fit in the vehicles. We have rented a van for the past two years and have had no issues. This time it was a real mess. Please contact us immediately regarding this issue. Avis Response: RE: Wrong size vehicle Avis Case: 20246721 Reservation: 20799326US2 Rental Agreement: U638884934 Dear Ronald Keilbart, Thank you for contacting Avis Customer Service regarding the vehicle received at time of your rental check out. We apologize that a vehicle in your reserved car class was not available when you arrived at our rental location. We understand that this occurred at BZN on 6/12/17and your rental agreement number was U638884934. We strive to keep adequate inventory levels at all of our Avis locations, but we obviously fell short in meeting your rental needs and for this we deeply apologize. Your concerns have been documented in Case umber 20246721. We've also emailed you a $50.00 coupon off a future rental. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? 50.00? For a future rental? It cost us more than that in gas for the second car that we did not want. You ruined our trip that we planned for a year. You ruined our experience and the way it played out because we were not together. We had to drive 2 separate cars, pay for gas on two separate cars. We were NOT all together. We didn't have enough room for the bags. It was ridiculous. We had to get another vehicle for the bags to and from the airport. How can YOU , AVIS, rent a van for 12 and NOT have it available????? We understand from Bozeman airport that we were not the only ones that got screwed! There were 5 or 6 groups that rented these 12 pax vans, and Corporate ( as it was explained to us), only sent 1. You should refund the entire rental! YOU, AVIS, did not hold up your end of the agreement. That is just bad business!!!!

Looks like you should have read Avis Policies.

Most U.S. locations also accept bank debit cards with the Visa or MasterCard logo as credit identification at the time of rental if you are at least 25 years of age.

Canada locations do not accept bank debit cards as a form of credit identification. In most cases, U.S.

locations will perform a credit check for debit card renters to determine credit worthiness at the time of rental. The renter must meet Avis' minimum criteria in order to rent.

I think my chat session with an Avis representative says it all, but you can judge for yourself: I was booking a premium SUV rental at YYC and entered everything and hit confirm and was told my information had been cleared for security reasons, please enter it again. Interestingly, it remembered everything about my booking except my car selection (can't see how that could be a security concern) so I reselected Premium SUV and now the rental price jumped from $778 to $887, before taxes, or from $1,025 to $1,148 after taxes. Avis charged my card 4 times

I called Avis on a sunday to book a rental car for a week about a month away. They quoted me a special "prepay rate" that I would get if I paid the car in full at the time of booking, and gauranteed me the specific car I wanted. I said great, put it through. They took all my information and then told me they were sorry, but prepay is not available and to please try later or book the car for about $250 more. I said I'd call back. I tried 2 more times that day, and the say thing happened. I then called the following day (a Monday), and spoke to someone else, and after going through my billing information for a fourth time with Avis, I was informed again that they cannot process prepay but they would give me a special rate with a coupon and the total would be about $50 more then the pre pay rate. The man I spoke to (Robert) told me to call the location of pick-up, and they could possibly give me the rate I was originally quoted. When I spoke to a man at the pick-up location, I explained my situation and he responded "wow, that's a new one", and proceeded to tell me that they cannot give pre pay rates. He also mentioned that I would get the car I was booking OR similar. I told him I am booking in a luxury class and wanted the specific car and I was told the day before on the phone that I would get that car. He told me he wasn't sure why they would say that, but when booking a car that's in a class you are never gauranteed a specific car. He suggested I modify my reservation to a cheaper class, and then take a look at what they have when I arrive to pick up the car, and then I can change the reservation then. I appreciated his honesty and help and took his suggestion. The next morning I get a call from my bank about 4 large charges to my account. Avis charged me the prepay rate which was $613.72 FOUR TIMES! which was how many times I called and put my card information in just for them to tell me the system could not process it. I had over $2,400 worth of charges from Avis for a process they claimed they could not complete.
