Documenting terrible service
Everyone has had an issue once or twice with a rental company. But, Avis is consistently over booking its customers.
My last 5 rentals have all ended up with me NOT getting the car that I reserved. So, today, Mar. 7th in anticipation of the difficulty I have encountered in the past, I called AVIS after my reservation to confirm. Avis redirected me to this location within the Sheridan in Maitland.
So, on my drive to that location to pick up the vehicle I had reserved, I recieve a call from an employee named Chris. Chris was rude and short as he informed me that I needed to give him 24hr notice to rent a pick up truck. I calmly explained to him that the reservation was transferred by a Supervisor at Avis and not by me. His attitude was off-putting.
People choose who to do business with by the quality of care they recieve. 0/10 for Avis. Chris' attitude is what motivated me to check the local rental car market for alternatives.
Not only does Avis has terrible customer service but they are also terribly over-priced. Check Hertz, National or Enterprise before wasting your money on poor customer service and terrible booking practices.
User's recommendation: Buyer Beware. You most likely will not get the car you reserved regardless of whether you prepaid or not.
They continually charging your credit card after you return the rental. The vehicle is alway dirty
Preferred solution: Apology
User's recommendation: Do go to the one on 2015 south federal hwy fort Pierce 34982
Call broke down spend a whole day waiting for replacement vehicle
Car showed warning symbol that the transmission needed servicing. I scheduled a replacement vehicle and brought the car to the shop in the morning for replacement.
The code was going on the dashboard so the agent decided I didnt need to replace the vehicle after leaving about 5 miles down the road, 3 miles down the road, the emergency symbol came on the dash in the code read a service CVT malfunction service transmission. Now afterwards the car wouldnt go into gear so I called again for replacement vehicle using the one 800 number for emergency breakdown and I waited from 10 oclock in the morning until 5 PM for a replacement vehicle to show up was brought with the vehicle to the incorrect location to drop the vehicle and had to have Avis bring me another vehicle from Sacramento which arrives at my location at 11:30 PM , I missed work and was suspended from my job and when I asked the customer service agent at the counter, if I could get a reimbursement for the day that I didnt use the vehicle because Im drivable she said no there was nothing wrong with the vehicle and apparently there is no code on the dash of the vehicle this morning when they cleaned it I had to call national Avis to get a ream of credit approved and still have to navigate through extending the rental that I am in which is not the vehicle I was looking for and navigate the return counter when Im probably going to have to argue with somebody about getting a rebate.
- I dont come pick you up when your vehicle breaks down
- Dont deliver cars
- Customer service agent at parker road location is rude
Preferred solution: Price reduction
User's recommendation: Don’t use Avis go to enterprise. If you have a problem, they’ll come pick you up and bring you to your new car and deal with the rest of the problems on their own since the vehicles are theirs.

Verified Reviewer | Denver, ColoradoWORST VEHICLE RENTAL EVER
Rented a 15 passenger van in Denver that was to be AWD but when we get there it is a rear wheel drive. They gave us a 5 passenger SUV & called it an elite SUV & charged almost $300 extra.
Then we had to get a second vehicle & we specified we needed a 4 Wheel drive they gave us a Toyota Highlander and when we got to the resort the vehicle would not make it up the driveway.. We had to park it and pay in town since we could not get it to the home we were staying at. Called AVIS Customer NO SERVICE and they offered to credit $300 now come to find out they had charged us a security deposit of almost $300 so really all they were willing to credit us was maybe $50 when it was all said and done.
WORST EVER!!! LOSERS
- Customer service was worthless
Preferred solution: Price reduction
User's recommendation: If 4 wheel drive required confirm that it is an actual 4 wheel drive and not an AWD

Our car rental at CML on 9/29/22 was extremely agregvating and a total time of service was over 1 hour. Your employees at the CMH location are ill trained and extremely oblivious to their job skills.
Employees at your CMH location on 9/29/22 were ill trained and not able to handle their job function. For us to wait over 1 hour and becoming aggrevated with the personnel at this location was unreasonable and exhausting.
One of the employees continued to attempt to make customers credit card go thru processing. Their attempt was at least 6 different credit cards and we finally were finished with out rental and the employee continued to attempt to use credit cards that were no good and not trying to help others in line.
Full RETRAINING is NEEDED for these employees at the CMH LOCATION.
Attempts to call customer service took over one hour after becoming disconnected 3 times.
We finally found the correct phone number for customer service and finally after 30 minutes our complaints were heard and resolved.

Verified Reviewer | Venezia Mestre, VenetoAVIS are thieves!
So after 9 months, many long distance calls and multiple emails, AVIS finally responded and admitted there was an administrative error that caused the issue and refunded me 725 Euros. Unfortunately, the Euro declined in value while AVIS had my money, so I am still out...
We noticed the change in address when dropping it off, so we went there.
However there was no AVIS rental desk at the address, just an office building. So we drove to the originally booked location (8km away) and returned it fully fueled with no additional damages. I was told I would be emailed a receipt.
Later, after reviewing the receipt, we noticed an additional 725 Euros. We were charged 1,637.03 Euros instead of the agreed 912.03 Euros.
We returned the next day (a Sunday) and the representative (Ali Asanovski) said they should not have put the new address on the contract and he would get us a refund.
Well, there has been no refund and I have reached out numerous times to AVIS in the USA, Europe and Austria. I spoke with Gabor Oltvai (AVIS station manager at Parkgarage Votivpark, Vienna) and he tried to get me a refund. However, AVIS Italy says the charges are fair! There was no way to return the car to the new address, so we should not have been charged.
Additionally, 725 Euros would not be a fair charge for the 8km difference between locations!
This is simply theft! Never rent from AVIS!
- Excessive charges
Preferred solution: Full refund
User's recommendation: Avoid AVIS!

Stay away! Stay far, far away from Avis Car Rentals.
If I could give a negative star review of this company, I would.
I am hoping to inform people of the unscrupulous and dreadful experience Im having with Avis Rental in general, and the Avis Rental location at Lynchburg Regional Airport in particular.
I rented a car from Avis at Lynchburg Regional Airport in Virginia on Monday 9-13-21when my car broke down. The rental car I received was awful. First, someone had been smoking marijuana in the car sometime before me, the windows werent cleaned and I had to do that when I got home. When I did get home, my roommate told me that she saw some dents and scratches on the passenger side of the car!
This was not revealed to me and a representative did not do a walk-around the car before I left. (I didnt know this was to be done because this was the first time I had ever rented a car.) I took pictures, and it could be seen that these were older defects because there was rust in some spots. I drove the car on Tuesday for work ok. On the third day is when the excitement really began.
One the way home from taking my dad to the oncologist, a noise started coming from the front of the car. At first I thought it was a flat tire, but when I pulled over to inspect it, I found a plastic piece (the air dam, I later found out) came loose from the undercarriage of the car close to the bumper. I was able to prop it up under a metal piece long enough to drive it home. I immediately called Avis in Lynchburg and told them what happened.
They told me there were no more cars available and I couldnt take it to be fixed because I would not be reimbursed. The girl I spoke with told me if I could prop it up somehow and drive it. Huh? I also told her about the damage to the passenger side, and she informed me that they knew about that and had it noted.
Right. On Thursday, the check engine light came on, and stayed on most of the day. I tried to call Avis that day, but couldnt get anybody to answer the phone. Then on Friday, when I pulled out of the driveway, the whole front of the air dam was dragging on the ground and hitting the front tires.
I immediately pulled back into the driveway, parked the car, and called Roadside Assistance to come pick it up. A tow truck finally picked it up later in the afternoon. I had missed a whole days worth of work. I did not hit anything, run over anything, or have an accident with another car.
I simply drove the car.
End of story you might ask? Oh, no. I get a call from Sedgewick, who does claims adjustment for Avis, stating that I owed for damages to the car while in my possession for the sum of $3,312.25! What?
I asked for a detailed report of the repairs, and it took two attempts to get it. They replaced the front rocker panel, rear door belt, interior door trim, housing mirror, the damage to the passenger side door, and other items that Im need an expert to tell me what they did. They claim that I am responsible for the cost associated with the damage regardless of fault. Excuse me, but Im not responsible for damage to the car that occurred by previous renters.
Apparently, they do not inspect the cars when they are returned to Lynchburg Regional Airport because if they had, they never would have put this car back out to be rented.
I attempted to call Avis Rentals at Lynchburg Airport several times. I have written a letter to the company. One representative, Shelia Williams, did email me in December stating that if I wanted to discuss my experience further, to send an email with my phone number. I did that, twice, and I didnt get a response from her.
So much for a Territory Performance Manager.
This an unacceptable and terrible way to do business! I paid for something that was substandard, in ill repair, and unusable. Plus, I lost money by not being able to work. I am frustrated and outraged.
I will never use Avis Rentals again, and I will warn anyone who asks. I am trying to prevent this atrocity from happening to someone else. Also, what if the air dam had completely come off, causing an ACTUAL accident for myself or others?
What then?
If they have done this to me, then they have done it to others!
