Liers, they treat customers like idiots and force employees to sell or be fired

As a former Avis employee I write all this to advice all customers to stay far away from these people. Few years ago they self-invented a system called "THE WHEEL" what basically means that employees have no freedom to talk to customers in an honest way. Employees are forced to follow a list of sentences with the only purpose to cheat the customer. If you dont follow these sentences one by one, and repeating the words as it has to be, word by word you are FIRED, first they try to cheat you with the car always recommending a higher car no matter what your needs are, so they get more money. They dont care about your needs, they only offer you higher category cars so they get more money. then the insurance the recommend you the whole package, then if you dont accept they stay one step down and offer the partial, even if you refuse and say clearly: I do not want any insurance, they will go one by one because managers force them to do it. They have to offer all types of insurance or get a null score in their evaluations by the managers. Then they try to sell you navigation, etc, etc. and there is always hidden charges always, remember I am a former Avis employee. I REPEAT stay away from these people. Employees have no moral or ethics, and if they have they are fired. Managers put them into a list on a weekly basis to see the best and the worst, best in green worse in red, so they receive their social punishment of seeing their names down in the "wall of shame". Employees are evaluated daily by sales managers who sit close to them while they do the contracts with the customers and if they do not follow the words they have to say, like a robot, one by one they get 0 points in their evaluations and they fail. Working there is a nightmare, I have seen people in their 30´s and 40´s crying like children, people get sick and depressed, is a jail, you are not a person, you are not allow to use your own words, you are treated as a robot, and you are forced to repeat, in a robotized way, the words they force you to say or get Fired. That´s the hidden truth behind Avis Budget. Stay away, all employees are slaves for the managers, they are simply numbers, employees in most cases are not bad people but they are forced to cheat or get fired, following the famous "wheel" . As a former Avis employee I xerox some docs and I can even provide the famous "wheel" in a future post, so everyone can see.

I do have the worst of experience I could ever imagined with AVIS yes they are totally corrupt and I do think the employees are forced to be very dishonest and behave like criminals, in my case I have been taken to court because i refuse to pay a repair after I was told that the damage was to be covered by the insurance I took, but even worst I saw the same truck at the AVIS office (same registration plates) two weeks before the end of repair date indicated in the bill AVIS is trying to charge me.

My lawyers requested the rental records from AVIS in order to check if they had the truck or rented it at the time they claim it was repaired, AVIS failed to provide these records, they claim they don't have that information, which is totally not true. AVIS uses a system called Wizard to keep all these records, I am searching for a copy of a manual that indicates what records and/or how to generate a report indicating all the rentals of a truck during a given timeframe, any help will be very much appreciated.

Odd. Avis has always been a great place to rent an auto and has been good to both myself and my family---especially my army son who was treated with respect and kindness while on leave from Iraq a few years ago---as opposed to Hertz, who treated him like dirt.

All rental companies push the "extras" like insurance, GPS, etc. They do this to make a bit more money. Happens in many other businesses, also.

I suspect you were fired and now are looking for some way to cast aspersions against Avis. Time to get on with your life and get rid of that chip on your shoulder.

Overcharged

When renting a car from Avis via Priceline, I was given a price that I could work with, insurance included. However, when I approached to desk and talked to an agent, she told me that the insurance through Priceline wouldn't cover anything, I was fine with purchasing the correct insurance, no problem. Then she proceeds to offer me an upgrade which would be $5 more total. Come to find out on my business card, I was charged for two rentals at over $200 each. My company fought for me for a few months and took it off my card. Today, I receive an email saying that Avis was in the clear, and I lost my dispute. Now I have to pay it back sometime down the line, just because someone offered me an upgrade which should have been on a single rental, not to open up a ticket for another one. I won't be renting from them anytime soon.

Recently rented an avis car through Priceline. Paid for the collision insurance online before i could reserve it.

Total at the counter should have been $88.00. Was charged $278.! After sending in the paperwork, I received a partial reimbursement. Still ended up paying $170.

twice as much as stated in my paperwork! Avis Sucks!

Brought the car in full of gas and was charged $60 for fuel

Filled up on the way to the airport (rental car return) found the charge on my credit card the next week. When I inquired they said it was for fuel. I sent them the print screen from my Amex showing where i had purchased fuel from a shell station by the airport. They only replied that they must have the original receipt. Who keeps these? I didn't. Regardless it is shady to charge for fuel when the car was brought back completely full. I am sure it isn't the first time this AVIS branch by the airport in Puerto Rico has boosted their sales in this manner.

We traveled to Spain in a big group and rented 3 units of 7-seater cars (Volkswagen Touran or similar) with Avis. Full payment has been made 3 weeks before the trip. They charged EUR 269.00 for each car. RESERVED CARS WERE NOT AVAILABLE Upon arrival we were told that the cars were not available. We were offered the alternative options but they are smaller cars like MINI !? It's clearly cannot accommodate such a big group with luggages. We have no choice, but have to rent the 4th car advised by Avis to continue the trip. EXTRA INSURANCE FEE INCURRED When we made the payment online, it stated that insurance was covered. However when we were there, extra insurance fee incurred. EUR 184.47 was imposed for each of the 3 reserved cars, not to forget that none of the cars provided was the same as what we paid. Different and smaller cars were provided. 2 OUT OF 4 CARS BROKEN DOWN AND WE WERE CLAIMED FOR DAMAGE COST NOT EVEN KNOWING WHAT IS THE REASON The most ridiculous part happened here ! When we collected the car at Seville, Santa Justa train station, three of four cars ( Nissan Juke, Picasso and Audi Q3) has some smell of rubber burnt. We called Avis office but they assured this is fine and normal and we can continue the drive. After driving more than 200km, a very smooth journey and we reached Granada, the Nissan Juke's engine emitted smoke and we immediately stopped the car and called for breakdown service. The car was taken, and we were informed that the clutch box was burnt and we need to pay. How can we damage the clutch box when it can be driven for more than 200km without any problem !? We keep calling for more than 10 times to clarify, but Avis just told me the car mechanic was closed so nothing they can do? Since then no updates from them at all. During the next day, again we drove the Audi Q3 and there is no problem all the way. Out of sudden, the clutch pedal was not working and when we put the car in the first gear, the whole car could not move. This is extremely danger as we were driving on the road !! We stopped and called breakdown service immediately, again the car was taken by Avis, and we were informed later the clutch was burnt and need to pay. Please note that we have to take the 4th car due to their unprofessional arrangement and we did contact their office to ensure the car conditions before we departed. CREDIT CARD WAS CHARGED WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION Calling more than 10 times and sent 3 emails but no respond from them at all, all the way from Spain back to Malaysia. Once the cars was taken, no update, email, calls, or report to clarify any single details, then my credit card was charged EUR 2000 due to the burnt clutch box for Audi Q3 !!?? For Nissan Juke, we still remembered how rude the employee exclaimed that at least EUR 1,000 will be charged due to damage when were at the counter. So we cancelled the credit card for this car. Since they cannot charge for the alleged "damage cost", they twisted a new reason to charge us. Below a sudden email from them after all the failure to reach them: We inform you that after investigating your case, we confirm that based in our systems and the information provided, there is no Damage charge in this rental. Attached you will find the final invoice, where you can check the final amounts of this hire. If you need any more information, please don’t hesitate in contacting us again. Regards, Ismael Blanco Atención al Cliente / Customer Service Dpt. Avis Budget Spain Avis Alquile un coche, S.A. Tel: + 34 9** 248 824 www.avis.es We have fully paid to rent this car before collection. Since the rental was paid and they said there is no damage cost, why there is new charge for the car again? Is the car really damaged? Why none of any written explanation provided, or even just a call? You won't have the answer as it's all about single-sided story once the car is taken. So we see how it worked: If you are unlucky enough to cancel your card in time, you will be charged with an unknown amount anytime! If you are lucky enough to cancel your card in time, so they found they cannot charge with this reason, they came with another reason ! We filed in the dispute form to the card issuing bank and hopefully they are wise enough to identify these scams. Now only we found hundreds of complaints in various of websites. It's apparently that Avis is ripping off customer's money without caring their business conduct or reputation anymore. Same thing happened again and again but much more maybe coming on. We wrote here as we experienced badly, how about those who just search a car service rental company online, just like what we did when we rented at the beginning.

Poor service

We arrived in Auckland and went to Avis to pick up a prebooked hire car. The young man who served us had no idea of what was required and what we had previously booked. When he reviewed the request he realised we needed two car seats for which he was not prepared to offer. Generally the seats are in the car waiting as they are required to be fit a certain way. This was not the case and he gave both seats to us and told us to fit them ourselves. He then asked the man next to us in the *** to take these to our car for us as he did not want to help and there was no one from Avis to assist. This was totally unacceptable and as we are frequent Avis users around the world (in the last 12 months we have used Avis 6 times) we are very disappointed with this service and the attitude of the customer service representatives.

Credit card fraud by AVIS in Cabo

Beware renting cars from AVIS in Cabo. When we arranged the rental at our hotel (Pueblo Bonito Rosa) they only had a Fiat 500 - not something we wanted, but there was no other choice either. We were concerned when the rental agent used the side of his pencil to take an old style imprint of our credit card - turns out later that we should have been more concerned. After snorkeling at a nearby beach the following day, the Fiat would not start, possibly because the electronic key might have got wet (avoid this type of key if you can). AVIS brought a replacement Fiat and insisted I leave right away, I suspect so that we could not see them simply pull a replacement key out of their pocket since they would likely have a second key in case a one got lost. When we returned the replacement car before leaving Cabo, we asked if there would be any additional charges and we left with the understanding that there would not be any. However when we received our credit card bill after arriving home, instead of the $282.55 we expected, the car rental charges were $836.32. Our first attempt to find out what happened was to call the AVIS international office customer service, but they were unable to resolve the extra charges and informed us we would have to deal with AVIS in Cabo directly. That was a bit difficult since they never answer their phone so we mostly had to deal with them by email. After asking several times for a breakdown of the charges they admitted that they had overcharged us $117.26 for an extra day and they removed that charge. Another $115.15 in excess charges was mysteriously removed, but they did not explain why, leaving us still with $603.16 for a bill that should have been $282.55. The only explanation given for the remaining $320.61 in excess charges was that the key was damaged. Online searches indicate these keys should cost about $200. Then as a final insult, the following month we our credit card statement included fraudulent charges for several thousand dollars in Panama and Costa Rica, places that we have never visited. Since we never used that credit card for anything except the car rental and remembering the credit card imprint taken when we rented the car we strongly suspect that our card was copied by the AVIS employee in Cabo. Thankfully those charges were removed by the credit card company.

Multiple extra charges

After a week of driving a rental car from Vancouver to Revelstoke, BC, CA I was charged $175 without explanation when I returned home and viewed my credit card. I thought this was for a chip in the windshield. That was on Feb. 2, 2014. I am viewing my credit card statement now on Feb. 28, 2014 and they are charging me $271.35 for something else I have no idea about. In the beginning, I paid for the car with frequent flyer miles from American. The entire week was paid except for $187. Then we get to the counter to pick up the car and I was charged $200 for taxes and fees for CA. When I dropped off the car on Feb. 1, the vultures waiting for you immediately noticed a chip in the windshield before I even got out of the car. I am now being charged for $271 for that chip. They don't even fix windshields. So this is a money making scam that Avis has written into their policy. In total I was charged approximately $833 and 37,000 frequent flyer miles for a 7 days car rental. DO NOT EVER RENT FROM AVIS!

Insurance charge

Just a total scam. Purchased a plane flight and car rental with Avis through Orbitz . After sitting in line for an hour the lady at the counter continued to try to up sell me everything under the sun. I said no to everything and she still charged me for insurance. Meanwhile, I had already paid the insurance with a third-party as they claim and they cannot be responsible for the third-party. Although, Orbitz is a third-party, they seem to see this purchase on their records, but this doesn't seem stop them from trying to upgrade you with a constant badgering when you have already decided what you want. I called and spoke with Kenneth and I tried to get my money back and he offered only half for the insurance. Basically, saying, too bad, you signed the contract. I told him I understand signing an agreement binds me, but a simple lack of communication and persistent up selling with the intent to gouge needs to be rectified with proof of the my other insurance. Of course, they will not see the customer's side and you are therefore up the creek. The best thing to do is to boycott such companies as Avis and use the power of the dollar to put them out of business. Anyone reading this can take it for what it is worth, but with customer service such as this, Avis needs to get as little business as possible.

U are Completely right man, I am a former Avis Budget employee and I m a 100% with you. Employees are FORCED to sell or they get fired.

As simple as it is. They have a daily goal they have to reach, if they dont reach it they get fired. They have a system called "the wheel" which is a list of sentences meant to confuse the client so they sell more products you dont really need. Employees are simply forced to do it.

If you have ethics or morals you dont work there. Next time you go ask them ...what is the wheel?

their faces will be like oh you caught us. Sales performance managers phicologically punish employees all the time.

Avis gets a FREE ride

Customer Service, Here's my complaint... Feb 3rd 2014 BA flight 177 4 hour late from NYC to London due to snowy conditions arrive Heathrow 1am. Avis rental booth closed up tight, after seeking information how to pick up our rental car for 45minutes we were told to call a number to reach Avis outside the airport. had to call serveral times each time the phone rang at least 50 times. We were then told a bus would pick us up. Waited 45minutes for bus to arrive. Driver very rude and could not be bothered saying hello or helping with bags. Arrived at Avis to blaring rock & roll music which the two young (ish) men "on duty" were rocking to. They were not interested in helping just getting rid of us ASAP. Were given the paper work told our car was black in row 4. The first 4 numbers on the car registration matched our paper work, car was black and in row 4. After 20 minutes trying to figure out the key system we were told we were in the wrong car. Turns out every car starts with the same 4 numbers. This whole awful ordeal at 3am was ridiculous and unnecessary if the employees were helpful and interested in doing their job. But believe it or not that's not the worst part. Returning the car was our next nightmare. We were told we would have to pay 60 pounds for a ding on the window from a pebble hitting the window while on the M4. Asked to speak to the manager to discuss this ridiculous and unreasonable situation we were told "sorry you signed the contact and it states we are responsible". Yes Avis we did sign the contract and yes Avis we have to pay but NO Avis we will never ever do business with you because we don't like your unreasonable business terms where you put all the responsibility on your customer, your business is set up that the customers is responsible for everything and Avis gets a free ride. In the end it's customers that make up your business and without them there will be NO Avis. Very disappointed and unhappy (x)customers,

Avis Phuket, shockingly poor quality

I booked an Avis Toyota Avis by internet prior to my arrival. When i arrived, they did not have the reservation but after some minutes the lady at the counter said, "No problem, Sir." and she proceeded with my reservation. After paying a 3900B fee for 3 days and a 20,000B deposit on my credit card, I proceeded to the parking lot to pick up my car. After a long wait, they showed up with a dirty car (inside and out) and the back seat was literally torn out. I have seen better cars at a junk yard. When I got upset, the first thing they said is "you are free to cancel", so that is what I did.

Charged for existing scratches on auto rental

I rented a car from Avis in Christchurch New Zealand. I walked the car and pointed out scratches to the attendant and was told "don't worry we don't charge for minor scratches" after I returned home I recieved a bank noticed that I was charged $1,645 for the rental for a 3 day rental. I called and they refused to discuss it saying there was no damage prior to me renting the car and was passed off to their insurance company. I was put on hold and left my name and number but would not return my call. I was told that this happened to other people and warned not to rent from Avis. I will never rent another car from Avis.

Took the reservation, but did not have the car

We rented a car from this location last year and everything was fine, but this time it was a complete disaster. We reserved a car three months in advance. Just before our arrival we called to verify that they have our reservation and that they are indeed open 24/7. The answers were “yes” and “yes”. When we arrived, we were told that they don’t have a car for us (remember Seinfeld? “you know how to take the reservation, you just don't know how to hold the reservation and that's really the most important part of the reservation, the holding. Anybody can just take them.”). They told us that they will definitely have a car for us the next day and will bring to where we were staying. Meanwhile, one of their staff gave us a ride to our place. That was the last we have heard from Avis. The next day no one called us. I called them, but they were not picking up the phone. Eventually I got through and the lady there told me “If we did not call you, that means we don’t have a car for you.” I asked when will they have a car for us and she said: “I don’t know, there are THOUSANDS of people like you waiting for cars.” After that, they simply stopped picking up the phone. So, I called the main Avis customer support line. Agents there were not helpful at all, after hearing my story they put me on hold and then simply transferred me back to the office (where no one picked up the phone). After this happened twice, I insisted on the agent trying to contact the location herself. She did, and confirmed that no one was picking up the phone. She said that there’s nothing else she can do for me and suggested that we rent from somewhere else. This was a Christmas week and all other companies were sold out. Thank you for ruining our vacation, Avis!

Thanks for turning down my money n I would never recommend them to anyone..I think Avis needs to consider other options out there before closing the door on people who wants to spend there money..but hey I'm just a person who could look the other way and thanks to ENTERPRISE RENTALS for taking my heachache and making the difference....
