Highly NOT recommended! Customers service is an absolute disaster, as a customer you have to run after them for any doubt you may have. No reply on emails with complaints. You are being charged things that you haven't told about, when you complain about it, being told that you had to find the information on their website. I called customers service and the assistant didn't even apologise once for the matter, instead he laughed once and kept silent. AVIS is really not recommended if you want to have a car rental and a peace of mind!!!!!!!!!!

August 2018. Reservation number 3056****-US-3. I made car rental arrangements by phone (in English) a few days before traveling to Montreal from Arizona. At YUL, Avis was out of small cars so the Agent gave me a Ford Flex instead of a Hyundai Elantra. Charges were added to the amount quoted earlier. I was told the office would be open 24-7 for the return. I could not get a hold of anyone at Avis other than a recording. Upon my return, 6, instead of 7 days later, I learned (from a personal acquaintance) that there would be no personnel at Avis after 11 p.m. and no one before 9 a.m., so I had to spend the night at the airport to catch my fight in the morning and be able to have enough time to return the car before my flight. The Agent, in his own words, said that he spoke nor French, nor English, nor "Franglish" (his word), but something like that! When I asked the details of what he was billing me for, he called me a "baby", mocked me, yelled at me, walked away! My bill ended up 3 times the amount quoted originally. Avis would not apply the USAA 25% discount offered to its members. Upon writing a factual complaint to an Avis, a "Representative, Account Services", responded to my complaint that it was but my "perception"! Needless to say, my need for truth was not met; my expectations for what was promised were not satisfied; the assistance I hoped for was instead an utter lack of caring; the customer support non-existent. No attempt at correcting the problem was made on the part of Avis, no refund, no USAA rebate extended. I experienced the worse car rental experience ever with Avis. I ask for the refund of the overcharge + the 25% rebate as a USAA member.

Horrible company

Recently rented a car from Avis I asked for the fuel program where I could bring the car back on empty the person behind the counter said okay that's the best way to do it but when I got the bill they charged me $118 for gas that's $9.99 a gallon so just beware of this company they aren't with Consumer affairs so watch them

Their customer service is absolutely worthless they will help you with nothing I will be sure to share this information on social media so everyone can see it

Also the car had 1/2 of a tank in it I thought I was being generous but I guess that doesn't matter to that company

Missing luggage

Im a preferred customer and i rented a suv at the IAH bush airport. The car was checked out and staged in space G8 when i arrived. I went over to car and notice it was to small for the ppl that had to be driven. I ask for a bigger car and the mgr said there wasnt nothing in the fleet. I told the mgr i might try to work with what i have and within the next 5 hrs of me needing the rental if something else comes in see if i can be upgraded or something. i was repeatly told NO. I put my luggage in the back of the car that was checked out to me( never left premises with the car) while i was taken care of buisness while at the airport. The car was check out for me at 9am. I return to avis at around 4 pm and ask to speak to a mgr. I spoke with a mgr and he told me he had something larger to put me in.i gave him the paper work to the car while i go get my bag out of the car that was reserved and given to me. I went to the space and the car with my luggage was gone. It had got rented to another customer and im ask questions but no answers. The only thing is sorry this happen. I have money, house keys, work badge, etc in my bag and was given no answers to how this happen. Im still waiting on call back from customer service or fleet mgr but not yet have i gotten a call back.

Could not get any help to get a new car when tire was flat

We picked up our car in Denver and drove it to Boulder, CO for a family wedding. The next day our tire was flat. I called the Avis number to see what help they could do for us, get us a new car or change the flat. They said we would have to go back to Denver and get another car (remember we were in Boulder for a family wedding). We had no intentions of going back to Denver for another car, can't believe there was no Avis closer. Then we had to get someone to change the tire. We spent the rest of that weekend driving around on a donut spare tire. I came home from that trip and called Avis to find out if that is all we could have expected from Avis. I was transferred 4 different times and no one could give me an answer. They offered to refund me one day of the charge for my issues that weekend because of the car. Today I opened my mail, received a letter from Avis they were charging me for that tire. So they basically took back the refund for the day they gave me the month before. I am again on the phone, on hold mostly, for the past 45 minutes trying to understand why they can't tell me what to expect, as far as help from Avis in these situations. I have never rented from them before and I will not in the future. I feel like they just push you aside once you have been charged for your car. It is in an emergency situation when you find out what kind of company you are dealing with, and I have no faith in Avis Rental Car Service. Save your time and your money and go with another Rental Car company. I have spent approximately 3 hours on the phone with Avis trying to find out what options we had and why we were left with a flat tire to get fixed because we didn't want to go back to Denver. Very frustrating. Avis is truly lacking in how to handle their customers needs once they have left their facility with the rental car.

If you do nothing else, at least dispute the charge for the tire. This will cost Avis the dispute fee.

Avis was good to my military son traveling in uniform a few years ago, as opposed to Hertz but perhaps something has changed. Don't know.

Avis car filled with cigarette smoke and trash

We rented a car from Avis San Diego airport on October 12, 2018. The vehicle was in a completely unacceptable condition. It reeked of the smell of both cigarette smoke and marijuana. There was trash left in the car (e.g., coffee cups, papers, etc.) from the previous customers. We arrived in the evening and had somewhere to be, so we did not have time to go all the way back to the office from the garage to request a different vehicle. We called the Avis San Diego office more than 10 times over the weekend but no one ever answered the phone and there was no voicemail. We called customer service but the recording said they were closed. When we returned the vehicle, we pleasantly pointed out the problems with the dirty car and the Avis employee appeared unconcerned and did not apologize. We have not received a response to our email to Avis either. Our son has breathing issues, and we were told it would be a clean vehicle. All of us had difficulty breathing with the heavy smoke smell in the car.

This was the first time i rented a car. I have an auto rental insurance so i tryed to use it. I made reservasion and picked it up. I saw my invoce noticed the coupon code i tryed to add was not applied. I was supossed to get 3rd day free. The CS told me they can not fix it since i already picked up car. Then when i picjed up car i was asked if i wanted to prepay for gas, i figered why not. But i was not informed if i didnt use the whole tank i would still be charged a full tank, witch i only used 1/2 a tank.

Feel Scammed by Avis

I am very disappointed in my resent visit at Avis @ the Memphis Airport. I really feel that we were cheated. We reserved a SUV in Memphis @ the airport. We prepaid for an intermediate size. When we arrived we were given a larger SUV without a request on our part. We assumed it was just a nice gesture. We have been given an upgrade before without asking, therefore we thought nothing of it this time. We did not notice that we were charged for the upgrade until it was deducted from our bank account. We were also charged for a roadside assistance that we did not ask for, all of this resulted in an additional $175 charged to our account. We did call the 800 number for Avis & talked to a representative & he informed me that it was our fault for not questioning the upgrade & there was no explanation for the road service charge. We were reimbursed $47.00 from the goodness of his heartless heart. This has been a learning experience for us. 1. We will not accept a upgrade unless we get in writing. 2. We will never do business with Avis again. They may have swindle $128 from us but they will never get another chance.

Sounds like you failed to actually read the documents they presented to you at the time you picked up the car. The old saying "you snooze, you lose" applies.

It also sounds like you either used a debit card or gave Avis your bank info.

Bad move. Always use a credit card.

Avis Budget Group and told him my story. He handled my issue within a week. All the negative reviews may be true but did they try to rectify the problem? I am a happy AVIS customer! :)

Basically, I was overcharged because I dropped the rental off at a different location and was 3 hours late. Mr. Murphy got all the details and researched the issue and got back to me with a logical answer. I was a satisfied customer. Yes, I received a partial refund.

Thank you avis!!!! I tried to order online for rental car which return on Labor Day at other place other than lax. I tried on enterprise and other company, but they all closed. Avis was the only one that available to choose that day. Thought Avis was nice but I was wrong. It’s a trap. I returned before the schedule time and found out the location is closed. No key drop mailbox. No customer service. Can’t reach anyone. The only thing I can do is leave the key in the car and leave. Left message on sign out and customer service website. I called in next day and say they aren’t responsible. They say its my responsibility. Should drive to them next morning. I told them I have to leave that’s why I schedule that time. And it’s clear in words on the contract that I schedule the return time at that place. If u guys aren’t available, why can I order that time online. But they say it’s not their problem. They say I need to pay and pay and pay til they get the key in person. But I wasn’t there. Until my friend came up with the idea to call roadside assistance to unlock the car and sign out for me. It costs me 550 dollars, frustration, anger and lots of time wasted. I’ll never ever rent a car from Avis again.

Never Avis Again

We had to wait over 40 minutes to get are Rental, when there was no else around. They had 3 workers, but they all had to use the same computer and still didn't even have the car ready.Then she asked if we order a booster and I said no I wanted a car seat, well the car seat wasn't in and we had to walk all the way back to the counter. Worst customer service ever and we won't be back.

Kahului Maui...For 2 separate locations using 1 small shuttle to pickup and drop off waste so much of my time. And with 1 person checking in the returns I usually miss the shuttle. Have to wait for the next one. If that one is too full I have to wait for the next one after. Then finally get on and have to go to the other location to drop off and load. So much wasted time. I’m tired of dealing with the shuttlings timing I rented across the street from national. You folks should take some notes from them, they were on top of it. I been renting with you folks for over 26 yrs, I’m done.
