While in Germany there was a major storm causing power outages and downed trees blocking roadways causing all trains and buses from Cologne to Dusseldorf to cease running. The only way to get to our flight in Dusseldorf was to rent from Avis and drive. I booked a card with Avis for 3 days, but i got charged for 4 days including insurance. I also pain full tank of fuel in advance, but i only used 40% of the tank. I tried to claim back the portion of fuel that i did not use and 1 day rental fee. But it has been a month since i raised the inquiry with them, but i have not got any response. Active duty military with a Florida license showing valid extension is not allowed to rent a vehicle from this company. Thanks for honoring our service and leaving me and my family stranded. No help from staff or corporate as they just state policy is policy. FIX IT!

Live and learn. I rented an Avis Citreon CV4. I just checked in the back to see if there is a spare tire. No such luck. There is a compressor and a can of foam, which would work fine for a small puncture but would be useless if the tire was damaged beyond repair. AVIS UK has a scam to charge you inflated conversion rates - beware. I rented a cat in London on June 30th. I was TOLD I will charged 266GBP for the total rental. Instead I was charged $474 on my card which is about $15 MORE then the exchange rate at the time. Customer service told me that there is fine print that says that I agreed to be charged in USD. Avis took 45 minutes to rent a car at the Jackson Hole Airport even though there were only 4 people in line. None of the other rental companies had any problem. They did not seem to know how to use their own system. They had also put in some cheap after market floor mats that were to big and jammed up against the accelerator. Made a prepaid reservation for a car in Portland Or for my daughter. Upon her arrival she was told no car was available, waited over 2 hours only to be told that she couldn't have the car because the card used to book it was not the same one as she had. Took full advantage of our girls when they were already devistated. After having her purse stolen with everything including the rental car key. Telling them they had no spare key to that car. Charged them for the key, the locks on the car, and had to have it towed. Are you trying hare at not caring about your customers Avis?

Our girls had their purses stolen, rental car key inside. Avis not only did not have another key, but charged them to replace the key, change all the locks on the car, pay to have it towed to the nearest lot, then charged them for not returning it to the original lot. Way to kick your customer when they are down Avis!

AVIS is a horrible company. EVERY experience that we have had with them has been absolutely horrible from every level.
