I am a frequent Avis Preferred Plus user. I reserved a car for my wife but unlike Hertz, Avis will not let you reserve a car under a spouse's Wizard number. I even prepaid for it to try and save a few dollars on a $600 weekly rental. When she went to pick up her rental at the Memphis Airport counter she had a horrible angry experience that has now changed my loyalty to Avis. I think my chat session with an Avis representative says it all, but you can judge for yourself: I was booking a premium SUV rental at YYC and entered everything and hit confirm and was told my information had been cleared for security reasons, please enter it again. picked up car 9:00 am Monday morning returned car 8:00pm same day. Avis dose not have a drop box to leave keys in so I had to leave with keys. Next morning I had to travel all the way back to Avis just to drop key. While in route called store no answer. Talked to corporate on way told them the problem they just said ok. There is no reason why dropping off a car takes an hour! They always have one person working on weekends and the line is out the door. People have things to do. This is the second time this has happened. I will be moving my business to another company.

After many years of renting with Avis I arrived at the Omaha airport at 11:30 p.m. After walking the considerable distance to the preferred booth I found no one there. I then walked all the way back to the Avis counter to retrieve keys for the vehicle I had reserved. The lady at the counter reached into a box of keys and came up with a Jeep Patriot. Never ever again. In denver spent an hour in line waiting for them to find the vehicle i had rented. No apologies. But i see they charged me 100 bucks for bringing it back an hour late. Never had that happen from any other company

Poor corporate leadership and terrible customer service. With having repeat business crucial to profits, especially with better run competition all around, by treating your customers so badly they leave permanently, this company is going down the toilet quickly. I'm one that will absolutely never rent your cars again. Good luck with your cheesy gouging of every nickel you can from consumers. I'd fire every one of the management there... Read more

We rented a 15 passenger van from Avis. Immediately broke down. Engine light on, needed an oil change, wouldn't go over 10 miles per hour. Needed a replacement. None to be found. Forced to take a Ford Fusion which was a joke. Ended up having to take an additional personal car, up all night trying to cram luggage in for 12 people. I rented with Avis for 1 day and returned the car with the keys but did not get a receipt. When I check my credit card statement, I see they have billed me $147 for the fuel charge! the cost of the rental was $132 per day. So basically the fuel charge was more than the rental apparently. Rented through Expedia (thank God). Long story short, flew from DC to Bakersfield. Picked up my car there and my total charge should have been $375.77, when I returned the car, there was a bit of a line so I dropped the key and contract in the return box, this was a mistake. I always used the return box with Budget, and have never had a problem. When I got my charge card statement I had two charges from Avis that totaled over $637.00. I called... Read more
